This succeeds the current Exynos 9810 chip that's powering the Galaxy S9 and Note9 series. The Galaxy S10 will be the first smartphone to come powered by the all-new Exynos 9820 SoC.

The new Exynos 9820 boasts high AI performance with its integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Samsung notes that the NPU allows the processor to perform AI-related functions seven times faster than its predecessor, thereby enhancing AI capabilities of a mobile device. The new fourth-generation custom core will offer around 20-percent improvement in single core performance or 40-percent in power efficiency.

The Exynos 9820 is manufactured based on a 8mm LPP (Low Power Plus) FinFET process. The Mali-G76 GPU promises 40% more performance, ideal for VR and AR, the LTE-A Pro modem supports 8x CA (Carrier Aggregation), 2 Gbps downlink speed, and 4×4 MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple Output). and MFC (Multi-Format Codec) supports 4K UHD 150 fps videos as well as 10-bit color.

It is a chip built using 8nm process (instead of 7nm, like its competition), and should consume 10 percent less power than before.

The new Mali-G76 MP12 GPU should also bring substantial upgrades to the table compared to last year's G72 MP18, aiming for "more impressive, uninterrupted gameplay".

Connectivity wise, the Exynos 9820 solution comes with an LTE-Advanced Pro modem that supports LTE Cat.20.

The processor uses an improved modem which is capable of 2Gbps download speeds, as compared to 1.2Gbps speeds from the previous generation modem. Of course, provided if your network supports it. The modem supports 4x4 Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output (MIMO), 256-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), and Enhanced Licensed-Assisted Access (eLAA) technology. The Exynos 9820 supports 8K videos up to 30fps or 4k videos up to 150 fps and can render 10-bit HDR videos. Exynos 9820 is the successor to the current generation Exynos 9810 that is now powering the Galaxy S9, S9 Plus and the Galaxy Note 9. One of the most notable features Samsung has added to the Exynos 9820 is a dedicated NPU.
