A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a pregnant woman was killed with a crossbow at her home in east London. It is said that Sania originally was Devi married to Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo but divorced him and re-married Imtiaz Muhammad and led a happy life.

Police said Mrs Unmathallegadoo was found with an abdominal injury.

The victim was known to neighbours as Sana Muhammad after changing her name from Devi Unmathallegadoo after marrying her new partner Imtiaz Muhammad six years ago. However the doctors could only save the baby and Sania was declared dead. We were together seven years.

Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 50, was charged this morning with the 35-year-old's murder. "She was taken to hospital where she later died", the Metropolitan police said.

Ms Unmathallegadoo was eight months pregnant with her baby, who was narrowly missed by the crossbow.

Det Ch Insp Gary Holmes, of the Met's homicide and major crime command, said; "This is a tragic incident and our sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of the victim". He was there with the crossbow loaded.

In tribute to his wife, Mr Muhammad told the Evening Standard: "She was a wonderful mother and wife".

"It's just frightful, everyone goes from this world, we all go, but the way she's gone it just hurts". He ran back into the home to alert his wife and children, but she was shot with the arrow in her abdomen soon after.

"He shot her. I can't help thinking she took my arrow". The baby was due in four weeks. "They operated with the arrow still in because it would have been too unsafe to take out", he said.

Unmathallegadoo, of no fixed address, was due to appear at Barkingside Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
