Lewis Hamilton names this year's Mercedes as the auto he has enjoyed driving the most, as it has allowed him to extract extra performance from himself.

Hamilton's boss Toto Wolff revealed the 33-year-old was one lap away from his engine blowing up.

Hamilton admitted he was in a panicked state.

"And, I think, that might be the best moment I've had with this team..." I know it's been a tough year for everyone here, so thank you all - it's been a privilege and absolutely awesome to drive this auto. "Let's keep pushing, let's keep raising the bar together!"

"My heart rate must have been above 190, those last 10 laps I was falt-chat trying to hold on to a auto, which was already struggling". I'm just incredibly proud of everyone's hard work. The Briton has averaged 10 a season for the last four years and won 50 of 99 races in the V6 turbo hybrid era that started in 2014.

His dramatic success confirmed Mercedes' record-equalling fifth consecutive double of drivers' and teams' championships.

"I didn't really feel the celebration there because I knew that we still had another championship to win and I really needed to remain focused for the team and I really came here, to build up to here, just really focused on making sure that I could deliver for them".

"He is an exceptional driver and an unbelievable human and he has been an integral part of the team", he added.

After meeting with stewards in Interlagos, Verstappen and Ocon shook hands publicly to suggest the matter is closed and Whiting says the matter will not be revisited when F1 reconvenes in Abu Dhabi.

Can Hamilton close out the season with yet another win? Lauda is often seen on an F1 weekend wearing a red hat, and it was only fitting the team doffed their caps while in unison declaring "To Niki' to dedicate their championship success to him". We'll soon find out.
