You can now place Skype calls using Amazon Alexa

Amazon's whole Echo range will be able to take advantage of Skype's basic calling features, and those with the Echo Show will be able to make video calls, too. Both Microsoft and Amazon have been working closely of late, bringing Alexa to the Xbox and Cortana to Amazon's devices in the kind of unholy matrimony that we never thought would be possible in a world where walled gardens and keeping software like digital assistants is seen as a differentiator for companies.

It's not just Microsoft, of course. With support for 4K, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and all the streaming services you know and love, the Fire TV Stick 4K is worth plugging into the back of any UHD TV in your home. Integration is simple, you connect your Skype account either in the Amazon Alexa app or via the web interface at alexa.amazon.com. To get started on this deal, you will need to head to the landing page, then sign up for Amazon Music Unlimited (Note: that this is only available for new Music Unlimited subscribers, if you have signed up before - whether for a free trial or not - you are not eligible).

Set up your Alexa device using the Amazon Alexa App for Android or iOS. You can then give your Echo commands to call people on Skype; a device with a screen and a camera will default to a video call, while a regular Echo will make a voice call. "Microsoft also just started selling Amazon's Echo devices in its retail stores in the USA this weekend".
