It comes more than two years after legal recreational marijuana use was approved by voters.

Two more stores in the state were expected to receive final licensing on Tuesday.

Uber riders should receive an email on Tuesday morning from the transportation company and Mother's Against Drunk Driving reminding them on the first day of legal marijuana sales in MA that driving while high is risky.

The state's first commercial pot shops opened in Leicester and Northampton.

"The Maine Department of Public Safety neither promulgates nor administers any rules applicable to either medicinal or recreational use of marijuana", Maine State Police attorney Christopher Parr said.

ME has also voted to legalize marijuana, though its first stores are not expected to open until next year.

The bottom line is marijuana should stay in the state where it is purchased, according to the federal government.

"I think there's a lot going on here in trying to bring marijuana out of the shadows", Mayor David Narkewicz told the publication, detailing what he will do with his own purchase: "I am actually going to probably preserve it and display it...because it is historically significant".

Recreational marijuana shops opened for the first time Tuesday in MA - and a mayor was the first in line at one of them.

The two dispensaries are Cultivate Holdings in Leicester and New England Treatment Access in Northampton, located in the central and western parts of the state, respectively.

The store's co-founder, Arnon Vered, thanked the mayor and offered this advice: "Remember, go low and slow".

In Leicester, about an hour east of Northampton, the rain also couldn't hold back eager customers awaiting the opening of Cultivate.

In Leicester, Stephen Mandile, an Iraq veteran of the Army National Guard, was the Cultivate's first customer, according to WBZ. As member station WBUR reports, the Cannabis Control Commission has already issued provisional licenses to 20 additional retailers, even as it processes applications from other businesses.
