This may mean that Apple will debut an upgraded set of AirPods with internal improvements that comes with the new wireless charging case, but it may also make that wireless charging case available as an add-on for current AirPod owners.

Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back with a new investor note, and this time he sheds more light on the launch timeline for upgraded AirPods. However, the theory is that Apple has been postponing the product launch because of the difficulties it is facing with its wireless charger, called AirPower. The other component would be a new W-Series chip, the processor series that Apple uses in its wireless devices including the Apple Home and Watch, plus a few selected Beats audio devices.

While iPhone sales might be slowing down, Kuo expects AirPods shipments to grow from 16 million units in 2017 to well over 100 million units by 2021.

AirPods 2, the rumored high-end wireless earphones with noise cancellation, water resistance and wireless charging, also didn't show up at September's Apple event.

Actually, it won't be the AirPods themselves that will change.

Nevertheless, he suggested that people have to wait until 2020 to witness all new AirPods with "all-new design" element.

Kuo believes more iPhone users will buy the AirPods and even skip on upgrading their phone, according to 9 to 5 Mac, which went on to describe more of the possible updates.

AirPods are hands down one of the best accessories ever unveiled by Apple.
