In brief: Microsoft's series of Surface computers have been some of the most experimental, interesting and successful Windows devices seen in years.

Ever since Microsoft announced the Surface Studio back in 2016, fans have had one question: Why not release the monitor separately?

According to Brad, Microsoft is working on a table-top speaker powered by Cortana which will exclusively focus on productivity and will help the user be productive in the office or at home. Hence, users will finally be able to get their hands on a handsome Surface branded monitor which can be paired with any other desktop cabinet. "For a company that makes, and will continue to make, the majority of its revenue with software and services, Surface has been a rare bright spot in the consumer and hardware spaces". There is a chance that we will get to see AMD powered Surface laptops by the fall of next year. However, at the moment we don't know the specific features we can expect in it.

Panos Panay had previously hinted to The Verge that future Surface PC's may be more modular - you can already swap out processing units on the Surface Hub 2 - and Microsoft has already filed patents for a modular Surface PC. The AMD Picasso line will refine the Raven Ridge offering with a new CPU core and new process technology and deliver a power/performance uplift according to leaked slides. Current AMD motherboards and laptop designs should need minimal tweaking to accept the new processors.

The book, citing unnamed sources, includes Microsoft's plans for refreshes for its hardware, including the popular gaming console, Xbox.
