Former Oklahoma City Thunder guard and New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher has been hired to coach the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. Brian Agler resigned as the team's head coach last week, leaving a vacancy that will be filled by the former National Basketball Association player and head coach. He famously took the job as head coach of the New York Knicks immediately after his retirement.

The suit says the Woloshins rented the house past year after their home was damaged by Hurricane Irma, agreeing to pay $30,000 a month. "Derek is a champion and proven leader on and off the court".

The Sparks will introduce Fisher at a press conference on Friday.

Fisher's tenure as Knicks head coach included a freakish domestic spat involving former teammate Matt Barnes and his estranged wife, Gloria Govan. "There is no finer organization in the WNBA and I can't wait to work with our ownership group, front office, talented players and staff to cement a culture of sustained excellence, which is what L.A. basketball fans demand - and deserve".

Fisher's tenure as a head coach in the National Basketball Association did not go well, posting a 40-96 record in a bit more than a season and a half. He is the winningest coach in WNBA history.

The Sparks, led by two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker, went 19-15 in the 2018 season and lost to the Washington Mystics in the second round of the playoffs. Agler also coached the Seattle Storm to a championship in 2010.
