"He was dumb as a rock and I couldn't get rid of him fast enough", Trump said on Twitter. "He was lazy as hell".

Donald Trump fired Rex Tillerson by tweet after their relationship soured.

Mr Trump fired Mr Tillerson from his role in March, after a series of public disagreements over North Korea, Russia and Iran. It violates the law, it violates the treaty, you know.

Tillerson added that his comment is not a criticism of Trump but a "concern that I have about us as Americans and us as a society and us as citizens". "He acts on his instincts; in some respects, that looks like impulsiveness".

Though he had been forewarned that Trump was unhappy with him, Tillerson learned of his dismissal through a tweet in which Trump congratulated his new pick for the job, Mike Pompeo, and concluded with a breezy, "Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!" "And if that's what you want to do, there's nothing wrong with that.' I told him, 'I'm ready to go up there and fight the fight, if that's what you want to do'".

Trump announced Tillerson's firing as the nation's top diplomat in a March tweet which named Mike Pompeo as his replacement.

Tillerson, a former chief executive of oil giant ExxonMobil, had no government experience and had never met Trump when his nomination was promoted by Republican Party insiders, who hoped for a stable figure who could nonetheless appeal to the tycoon-turned-president with his outsider status and business background.
