First Solar and Lunar Eclipse to fall in January

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow, just as a solar eclipse occurs when part of the Earth passes through the Moon's shadow. Super Blood Moon on January 21 is a Doomsday?

Interestingly, this will be the last total lunar eclipse until the next one takes place on 26 May 2021. Called the Super blood wolf moon eclipse, the earth's satellite will turn up the sky all bright and red in its glow.

Millions of people across North and South America and portions of Western Europe and Africa will be able to catch the rare sight overnight on January 20 into January 21, according to National Geographic.

"I saw one other full lunar eclipse in the '80s and it was absolutely stunning", Carter said.

The "blood moon" aspect is just the coppery hue the moon will take on during this time due to particles in the atmosphere being refracted by the tiny amount of sunlight that's still present during the lunar eclipse.

Partial Eclipse begins. Partial moon eclipse starts - moon is getting red.

So, what the heck is this "super blood wolf moon eclipse" (besides the ultimate tongue-tier, obviously)?

To get the best view you'll need to be in the Northern Hemisphere and avoid as much light pollution as possible.

Why is there a lunar eclipse two weeks after a solar eclipse?

According to a National Geographic report, the total lunar eclipse will begin at 10:11am IST on January 21 and will last for 62 minutes.

Solar and lunar eclipses always come together, sometimes as many as three in a row. Simply go out and look up if this month's lunar eclipse is visible in your area.

People watch the blood moon in Germany in 2018. Those in some other places, including Ecuador; Brazil; Uruguay and Paraguay, will only be able to witness a partial solar eclipse, according to Space.com.

Mercury, the smallest planet in the Solar system passes between Earth and the Sun only 13 times per century. This extra force doesn't have an appreciable effect on disasters, however.

The January full moon was nicknamed the "wolf moon" - and occasionally the "old moon" - by Native American tribes after wolves that howled outside as they hunted for food in mid-winter.

The free live stream is hosted on the Time and Date website as well as YouTube from 4am UTC and will be embedded here on Express.co.uk on the night of the eclipse. By the night of January 31, the moon will be less than two degrees from Venus.
