It was a heartbreaking moment for United Kingdom businessman, Richard Mason, when he discovered he has been infertile since birth due to suffering from cystic fibrosis and more shocking, not the father of the three boys he raised as his own since 1995, with his wife of 20 years, Kate.

Richard Mason, 55 - who was told by doctors that he was infertile in 2016 - believes the children were the product of his ex-wife Kate's affair.

He has now accepted a £250,000 out of court settlement from his former partner, which is a fraction of the £4 million he wanted back from their 2006 divorce agreement.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 97-98 per cent of men with cystic fibrosis are born infertile and can not father children without assisted reproductive technology.

According to the report, the paternity fraud case is being brought to public attention in Mason's hope that the real father would surface for the benefit of the now grown-up men.

The disease prevents male sufferers from having children and the Mirror reported DNA tests established Mr Mason was not the biological father of 19-year-old twin boys and their eldest child, who is now 23.

"You don't know what's real and what isn't - it's as if I'm living in The Matrix", he told The Mail on Sunday.

'Someone says to you "all that you know and everything you thought to be solid and true is not real". She also refused to have them christened. Meanwhile, it is not yet confirmed that unnamed man whom his ex-wife had an affair was the paternal father or not.

"I still see what the boys are doing on Facebook and it's heart-wrenching because we saw the graduation of the eldest on there, but I wasn't invited", he told the paper.

Mr Mason's family has been torn apart as his relationship with the boys has been destroyed by the revelation.

The paternity fraud case came to an end recently when Kate agreed to pay an out-of-court settlement, but Richard feels his life has been "destroyed".

Mason also revealed that as Kate insisted that each son should have a Jewish middle name.

Ms Mason and her sons declined to comment.
