Manchester United to pay Mourinho 16.6 million euros

Last week, Benfica sacked coach Rui Vitoría after three and a half seasons at the club, during which he won two league titles, one cup title, two Portuguese super cups and one league cup.

He said that: "I am his friend".

"Who would not like to have Mourinho?".

"I have never confirmed, nor denied any offers throughout my career", he told CMTV.

Mourinho began his coaching career in 2000 at Benfica but was in charge for only nine games before spells at Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

He said: "I have never been into the game of feeding news stories, but I have no intention of working in Portugal".

He has, reportedly, already rejected the opportunity to return to Benfica, the first club he managed.

"The best thing for Benfica is to support Bruno [Lage] and think about the future calmly". 'I am fine at the moment.

The Portugal tactician got fired after his side were thrashed 3-1 by current table toppers Liverpool earlier in December.

The Daily Mail says United paid up Mourinho's £15million compensation package immediately after he was sacked.

But Mourinho has refused to speak out on his exit from Old Trafford and, despite not being directly asked about his United departure, added: "I always learned that when you leave a club, you do not talk".

With Santiago Solari under pressure at the Bernabeu, Mourinho - who was sacked by Manchester United in December - emerged as a potential candidate, having left the club on good terms with president Florentino Perez in 2013, while he remains a fan favourite at Inter, after guiding them to a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League Treble in 2010.

'I have learned that, when you leave a club, you don't go around talking about it, you don't wash your dirty laundry in public.

His final months at Manchester United, however, have put a blotch on an nearly impeccable career to date, something which Mourinho will be eager to rectify at whatever club he decides to go to next.

"Jose is able to take on another job right now, but is in no rush".
