On Wednesday, New York-based style website The Cut unearthed 20-year-old stories about Farrelly and his older brother (and frequent filmmaking partner) Bobby Farrelly, with the republished excerpts claiming the younger Farrelly had a habit of tricking people into looking at his genitals.

Green Book director Peter Farrelly has issued a statement after an article published this week pointed out numerous press clippings of stories about him flashing actress Cameron Diaz back in the 90s.

"I spent my life trying to bring this story of overcoming differences and finding common ground to the screen, and I am incredibly sorry to everyone associated with 'Green Book, '" Vallelonga said in a statement Thursday via a representative. "I did this decades ago and I thought I was being amusing and the truth is I'm embarrassed and it makes me cringe now".

In another 1998 Newsweek story, film executive Tom Rothman, now chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, recounts being "flashed". Only days after conquering the Golden Globes, the preachy drama finds itself in even more controversy, once again from its screenwriter Nick Vallelonga, but also from director Peter Farrelly. It wasn't a pretty sight.

The screenplay was written by Vallelonga, Brian Currie and director Peter Farrelly. But as Noisey editor Shaad D'Souza notes, Green Book has won one thing so far: "PR crisis bingo" for 2019.

Vallelonga, who is the son of the driver Mortensen portrayed in "Green Book", was a chief architect of the film that has been cleaning up on the awards season circuit.

Farrelly was also nominated for Best Director but lost out to Alfonso Curaón who directed Roma.

The Washington Post, on September 18, 2001, published an article that claimed "law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river". I'm not going to answer that. Said musician and Shirley godson Dr. Muhammad Hatim: "The acting, the interaction, was just so moving for me, to see the spirit of Dr. Shirley was captured in such a magnificent way, I just wanted to thank everybody for that". I want everybody to see it, so yes, that would be a good thing'.
