If this season for the Chargers (13-4) was an old-school video game, those wins in London, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Baltimore were levels up for the final road-test boss they face now: a New England team flawless at home this season.

The fact that he's returning to practice this week is certainly a positive sign.

New England enjoyed a bye on Wild Card Weekend after posting straight-up victories in its final two regular season contests to clinch a 10th straight AFC East title, and sits as the conference's No. 2 seed going into Sunday afternoon's Chargers vs. Patriots betting matchup at Gillette Stadium. Because of her defective heart condition, his daughter did not have a heart valve, which required surgery to fix.

"She passed away January 3, Thursday", he said.

According to ESPN, Mebane, his wife Amena and their children Mahailey and Makai were in Omaha, Nebraska after the birth of Makenna to see doctors.

The rest of the Mebane family will remain in Los Angeles as they continue to heal.

"We know how great of a team they are", Gordon said. "Just trying to take one day at a time". Still thankful [for having her in our life]. Thank God every day. "I still pray. We're taking it one day at a time".
