The helicopter Desi was working on belonged to Dr. Alfred Bonati, an orthopedic surgeon at the Bonati Spine Institute in Husdon, Florida. The main rotor blades struck the victim in the head.

A man was decapitated in a helicopter accident at a Florida airport Thursday, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

He said Disi "had an interaction" with the aircraft and "died nearly immediately, if not immediately".

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office says 62-year-old Salvatore Disi died Thursday afternoon near the hangars at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.

Two men were using a power cart to jumpstart a helicopter when it began acting erratically - moving up and then down.

Commenting on the accident, the sheriff's office said it believes the incident was not deliberate, on anyone's part, though they stressed police will fully investigate the case to see if a crime has been committed.

The incident is still under investigation.

The incident occurred away from the facility's runways and did not impact air traffic, Nienhuis said according to the Tampa Bay Times.

In an email, a spokesperson for the the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told the Miami Herald it could "only confirm an individual was fatally injured, but not the specific nature of the injury".
