India paceman Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the one-day series in Australia and subsequent tour of New Zealand after playing a key role in their breakthrough Test series win Down Under, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) said on Tuesday.

New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and fast bowler Lachlan Ferguson have moved up to become joint-31st position holders after their credible performances during a 3-0 sweep over Sri Lanka.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah took 21 wickets in four Tests as India clinched the series 2-1.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a decision to rest India pacer Jasprit Bumrah for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia and the tour in New Zealand". Siddharth Kaul has also been named in the T20I squad to face New Zealand. Mohammed Siraj will join the Indian squad as the replacement for Bumrah. It was deemed fit to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia with the upcoming ODI World Cup in England set to be conducted soon as well. In his last first-class match he finished with impressive figures of 3 for 74 and 4 for 71 for Hyderabad against Punjab in the Ranji Trophy.

The attack comprising Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma has been hailed as India's best ever.

India play three ODIs against Australia starting in Sydney on Saturday before travelling to New Zealand for a five-ODI and three-T20I assignment starting January 23. Kaul also toured New Zealand as part of the India A squad, but for 50-over matches in which he finished as the highest wicket-taker with seven scalps from three games, with an economy rate of 5.88.
