SpaceX has said the duo could one day transport people from city to city on Earth, as well as propel passengers around the Moon, to the lunar surface, and even to Mars and back.

"To continue delivering for our customers and to succeed in developing interplanetary spacecraft and a global space-based Internet, SpaceX must become a leaner company", the company stated, referring to its ongoing work on its Starship and Super Heavy launch vehicles and Starlink constellation.

The photo shows the Starship at SpaceX's Texas launch site, towering above an astronaut to show scale.

Twitter users also noted how the prototype looked different, and pointed out how it resembled retro spaceships seen in old movies.

The Starship vehicle was formerly known as the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), a fully reusable vehicle created to take humans and supplies to Mars and also to dramatically cut travel time within Earth.

It's meant to undergo suborbital flights, with the first expected in March/April 2019, before hopefully moving on to orbital flights in 2020.

SpaceX now launches regular supply missions to the astronauts living at the International Space Station, using its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon cargo capsule. Until then, we'll have to wait for the opportunity to visit the solar system.
