Now, the former CT senator and vice presidential candidate is telling a political newcomer to shy away from that ambition because "she's different".

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's journey to Washington began in the Bronx, N.Y., where she was born to Puerto Rican parents.

"With all respect, I certainly hope she's not the future and I don't believe she is", Lieberman said to Fox Business host Neil Cavuto. "She's gotten a lot of attention because she's different. She's controversial", Lieberman continued.

"If you look at the majority of new Democrats in the house, they tend to be, I say, center-left, if they are not left-left", he said. "So that's the hope".

Former Democratic vice presidential candidate and general curmudgeon Joe Lieberman is a former Senator best known for bucking his party by supporting conservative positions.

According to reports, the campaign was forced to pay a $1,500 fine for not providing the required insurance.

In November, the elected Democrat became the youngest female rep.in Congress in US history.

The Politico report follows criticism from high profile former members of Congress like Democrat Claire McCaskill, a former senator from Missouri.

Possibly the "crying while laughing" emoji Ocasio-Cortez included in her tweet was a signal to all that her response should be taken in good fun. Her statement drew praise from both sides of the aisle.

Additionally, Ocasio-Cortez accused: President Trump "he has a proven track record of discrimination against anybody who's really non-white in the United States" predating his 2016 election to the White House. This wasn't Lieberman's first slam against her.

Lawmakers have been quietly criticizing the NY newcomer and are hoping to rein in her criticism of those in her own party, Politico reported, citing almost 20 lawmakers and aides.
