"Bad news... after some extensive hospital tests this morning it appears I'm not going to die", he joked on Twitter, alongside the hospital selfie. "I can only apologise for all the distress I know this will cause some people".

It is not immediately clear what put Morgan in the hospital in the first place or why he is still there.

Piers, who tagged his location as Bupa Cromwell Hospital, could be seen wearing a patterned hospital gown with what looks like a black jumper underneath.

Confirming he would be back on the box for GMB on Monday morning because he doesn't "pull sickies", Piers also took issue with a follower who tweeted their hopes he was making use of private healthcare.

However, The Mirror reports that Morgan will return to his post at "Good Morning Britain" on Monday to address his health.

Piers tweeted: "If you really want to know, I was diagnosed with stomach gastritis and duodenitis". After Piers shared a story on mental health, writing: "Beverley Callard says celebs are trying to make mental health problems "fashionable".

He wrote: "She'll be hammered for saying this, but it's 100% true".
