Amir Khan has signed a deal to fight WBO world champion Terence Crawford on April 20 at the iconic Madison Square Garden in NY, with the official announcement due to take place on January 15.

Sportsmail reported on Thursday that a deal was imminent and a formal announcement of Khan's challenge for Crawford's WBO welterweight title will be made in London on Tuesday. Crawford, Khan, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, and Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith will be attending the press conference. He said the location of the fight is not set yet but that it would take place in Las Vegas or at Madison Square Garden in NY.

They are expected to face off in either NY or Las Vegas, but details have yet to be confirmed.

But he will instead be a heavy underdog against 31-year-old Crawford, who has held world titles in three divisions.

Khan (33-4) defeated Phil Lo Greco and Samuel Vargas in 2018, after a near two-year hiatus following his emphatic defeat to Saul Alvarez at middleweight in May 2016.

The Briton had an offer to face domestic rival Kell Brook in a bout, which his team had said would prove more financially rewarding.
