James Middleton is speaking openly about his battle with depression

He goes on to describe the way he felt before seeking treatment. "It is an illness, a cancer of the mind", he explained. At that point, he finally called his doctor and sought help.

"They believe we can only tackle the stigma associated with mental illness if we have the courage to change the national conversation, to expel its negative associations".

"Although I'd never say I am cured of it [depression] - now I understand it and, with professional help, have worked out strategies for coping".

James, 31, struggled for about a year before reaching out for help in December 2017.

"I also felt misunderstood; a complete failure".

Knowing what he's up against, James makes a deliberate effort every day to put his best foot forward.


"You may wonder why I have chosen to speak now about the clinical depression that first hit me at the end of 2016". It explained what he described as a lack of focus in his work and also added explanation to his struggles with reading at school, having also knowingly had dyslexia at the time.

James also thanks his dogs for helping him.

"They believe we can only tackle the stigma associated with mental illness if we have the courage to change the national conversation, to expel its negative associations", he writes, before admitting those were the same people he found it most hard to talk about his own struggles.

"Ella, particularly, has been my constant companion for ten years and she's been with me to all my therapy sessions".

About what's going on with the youngest of the family, the Middleton has become known due to the fact that his profile in Instagram, which all lie had previously been closed, and accordingly the content in it was impossible to watch without the approval of the owner of the account has been made public.

"Proud of Ella for becoming a PAT dog this year. Animals can provide a sense of calm, comfort, or safety and divert attention away from a stressful situation and towards one that provides pleasure".
