Petta box office collection Day 2: Rajinikanth-starrer sets cash counters ringing

After S.Shankar's massive hit "2.0", Rajinikanth is back with his genre of film in Karthik Subbaraj helmed ' Petta'. Worldwide, Petta is galloping towards the Rs 50-crore-mark and looks close enough to nail it.

The last time a Rajinikanth movie opened at the second position at the box office was in 1992 when his Pandian clashed with Kamal Haasan's cult classic, Thevar Magan.

Rajinikanth's Petta has occupied the first place at the Chennai box office for the third consecutive day. According to the latest government order, theatres are having five shows of Petta and Viswasam, which is a huge help to their box office collection. The film has till now managed to collect a total of Rs 35.50 crore in two days at the box office. He has become the only actor in the last 27 years to beat Rajinikanth at Tamil Nadu box office. Petta story revolves around a man named Kaali takes up a job of boys hostel warden in Darjeeling, later Kaali noticed that the college dominated by Michael who is a son of a local leader, things goes interesting when Kaali's path crossed with a group of gangsters.


Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted about this unique feat achieved by Ajith.

Petta, produced by Sun Pictures, boasts a stellar cast including Rajinikanth, Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Trisha, Simran, Megha Akash, Malavika Mohanlal, Bobby Simhaa, Sasikumar and Sananth in significant roles.
