Around 110 women die daily from breast cancer in Pakistan

According to Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), 2018 saw more than 18 million new cases of cancer worldwide of which almost 5 million cases of breast, cervical, colorectal, and oral cancers could have been detected sooner and treated more effectively, improving patient survival rates and quality of life. While a cough is not cancer, it needs to be checked as persistent coughing can be due to lung cancer.

Additionally, one can reduce the risk of Cervical Cancer by adopting safe sex practices, such as the use of condoms and timely treatment of infections of the reproductive tract.

There are three screening programmes in Croatia - for breast, cervical and colon cancer.

Yet, some studies have shown that breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and pancreatic cancer are rather associated with eating high fat and high protein food, and physical inactivity. In its recently released statistics, World Health Organization claimed that 17 people die every minute from cancer. Kujundžić said an increase in breast cancer screening rates from the current 60 to 80% would save 3,000 lives in Croatia annually. When you combine the age of the people eligible to be tested, with take-up rate, plus sensitivity of screening, this leaves only 10% of cancers being identified by the screening process. Lack of awareness The begging questions worth asking is: Are people still clueless of cancer symptoms? Japan's 5-year stomach cancer survival rate can reach 80 percent, mostly because early screening is available for its whole population. This is known as unexplained weight loss and can be a symptom of cancer.

Turning to breast cancer, the MEP spoke of the need for there to be a specialised unit, highlighting that now such care is fragmented.
