The agency estimates that up to 11.7 million people had gotten sick with the flu from October through January 26, with roughly half that total visiting a doctor. Flu season officially began last October 1st and it typically runs through March 31st.

Four more deaths from flu, including one in Tulsa County, are reported in Oklahoma in the past week.

Earlier this month, Queensland health authorities issued an alert because of a surge in summer flu cases - a warning they said was for all Australians because flu cases were being spread as many people travelled on holidays.

Public health officials are reporting three more flu-related deaths in DE, bringing the total for the current flu season to eight. New York City and 23 states experienced high levels of flu-like activity last week, and the virus was widespread in 45 states. During the last week, the number of people aged between 0-14 years old who visited a doctor showing symptoms of the flu rose dramatically.

"Routine seasonal influenza vaccination is not being recommended at the present time".
