Three decades after the 1989 Chicago Motor Show was the stage for the debut of the original MX-5, Mazda has today unveiled the MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition at the 2019 Chicago Motor Show, which runs until 18 February.

Mazda's ever-popular convertible is turning 30.

This year, the beloved Mazda MX-5 Miata turns 30, and to mark the Japanese roadster's birthday Mazda has introduced the 2019 MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition. "It belongs to the fans around the world who have supported the development of the model". Also, each 30th Anniversary Edition Miata will get a badge, located on the driver's-side quarter-panel ahead of the rear wheel, that denotes the serial number of the vehicle. Orange accents highlight the interior, as well, with the color contrasting with the black leather and plastics that line much of the roadster's door trim, shift lever, dashboard, and seats. In addition, the MX-5 30 Anniversary is also equipped with Rays ZE40 RS30 forged aluminum alloy wheel that were specially developed just for this particular model.

Live photos of the special Miata in Chicago are now in the gallery. The 30th Anniversary Edition model is based on the sporty Club trim level (specifically, the Club with the BBS/Brembo/Recaro package), which adds performance features such as Bilstein dampers and a limited-slip diff.

Want one? You'll have to move fast, as only 3000 cars are available worldwide. The 30th Anniversary Edition also features Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard.

The 30th Anniversary softtop starts at $35,915, with the hardtop RF carrying a $2600 premium at $38,515. Mazda offered this model in four basic configurations: soft top with automatic transmission, retractable fastback with automatic transmission, soft top with manual transmission and retractable fastback with manual transmission.
