Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Childish Gambino reportedly turned down the Grammys

While Swift is away filming in London, Grande won't be attending or performing after a disagreement with the show's producer Ken Ehrlich.

Viewers may also be paying close attention to the number of female winners, as previous year the show made headlines when Alessia Cara was the only woman to nab a solo Grammy.

Rapper Kendrick Lamar - who won a Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN. but has yet to snare a Grammy for Album of the Year - earned eight nods while Canadian rapper Drake snagged seven. Despite being nominated for multiple awards, all three acts declined the opportunity to perform.

Women artists scored nominations in all of the top categories, after being largely muted a year ago: rapper Cardi B, pop diva Lady Gaga, pop futurist Janelle Monae and folk rocker Brandi Carlile are among the frontrunners.

"This isn't a trend, this is a fleeting moment, this is a critical time in our history - a turning point where the only way out is going forward", Monae said. After last year's testosterone-filled broadcast (and Recording Academy Chief Executive Niel Portnow's asinine suggestion that women need to "step up" in order to win more awards), the Academy recruited 900 new voters, expanded its major categories from five nominees to eight, and created a task force to identify unconscious biases that may affect the Grammys' voting process.

Grande responded to the statements on Twitter saying, "I've kept my mouth shut but now you're lying about me".

As you might know, the Grammys love tributes: This year, there will be one for Dolly Parton, performed by Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves and Katy Perry; one for Aretha Franklin, performed by Yolanda Williams, Andra Day and Fantasia; and one for Motown Records, led by Jennifer Lopez.

"It was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend. i hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more", she continued.

"It's about collaboration. It's about feeling supported".

See who else is nominated over here. A representative for the Grammys didn't return an email seeking clarification about the tribute.

The GRAMMYs have a stacked line up of performers including Cardi B, Travis Scott, and Post Malone, but could it have been even crazier?

Ariana Grande also pulled out after clashing with producers over which song to perform. "Just the fact that this album has connected in such a way beyond my wildest dreams is just really cool".
