Netflix Will Automatically Download New Episodes of Your Favorite Shows on iOS

Digital content streaming platform Netflix on Friday rolled out the "Smart Downloads" feature for iOS users to help them manage their downloaded titles on the app. The feature also automatically deletes a downloaded episode after it has been watched, alleviating storage problems on mobile devices. The app will delete any episodes you have watched before downloading the next. However, you can also disable this option as well.

There are two ways to enable this feature: Go to My Download page and enable Smart Downloads or head over to the App Settings page and enable it there.

Netflix has supported downloading shows and movies for offline viewing on iOS for a while.

Scroll down and select App Settings. That way if you need to watch the second episode again before getting caught up with the latest in your list, you can do that.

Smart Downloads is activated only when iOS and Android users are connected to a Wi-Fi signal. Then under the "Downloads" heading, use the toggle to turn Smart Downloads on or off. Sign up today to get news and updates delivered to your inbox and read on the go.

Netflix says the feature is available on its Windows 10 app as well, though we aren't sure when exactly that launched.

The feature itself can be turned on and off as a user sees fit, so it's not always on by default.

Netflix initially planned to release the Smart Downloads to iOS users late past year, but it was delayed for a couple of months before it finally launched.

"We're trying out a feature which gives Netflix members the ability to rewatch favorite scenes and memorable moments with the click of a button", the streaming firm said.
