Wells Fargo branches to remain open later after system issues

Wells Fargo responded to some Twitter users that it was aware of an issue regarding direct deposit payments.

The bank says even though they weren't visible, the transactions were processed normally, and they should now be visible.

Thursday's shutdown was the second in less than a week, and came as Wells Fargo labored to restore customer faith in the bank after revelations in 2016 that employees possibly opened 3.5 million unauthorized accounts to meet high-pressure sales goals.

However, the transition did not go as planned and customers complained that they were unable to access online and mobile banking, and some reported they were unable or restricted in their ability to withdraw cash. "We assure you that your direct deposit was processed". "We are experiencing higher than normal volumes so there still may be delays in online banking and contact center response times." .

Customers are also threatening to leave Wells Fargo over the outages and are anxious about the safety of their money with the bank.


Wells Fargo said most "critical" systems had recovered by the end of the day on Thursday.

Wells apologized multiple times during the outage and said any fees that customers incur because of the outage would be reversed.

Business news network CNBC reported that the incident happened at a data center in Shoreview, Minnesota around 5 a.m. CST Thursday and was under control starting at 9 a.m. Wells Fargo did not comment on the data center's location or the possible source of the smoke at the facility.

That prevented people from across the country from using its ATMs, the app on their phone, as well as the bank's online services.

Wenkheimer said getting through to customer service has been the biggest frustration of all.
