Hulu has unveiled the first look at its upcoming adaption of Catch-22 from George Clooney.

Catch-22 tells the fictional story of Yossarian (Abbott), a U.S. Army Air Force B-25 bombardier trying to fulfill his service requirements so he can return home from World War 2. Based on Joseph Heller's 1961 literary classic of the same name, Catch-22 is both war satire and tragedy, giving Americans a deeply cynical perspective on what Heller saw as the needless loss of lives during a war that until than had been depicted as exclusively a noble effort.

Clooney directs two episodes of the series, while his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov (The Men Who Stare At Goats) directs two and Ellen Kuras (Ozark) directs another two. He is also held up by the sinister rule that if a pilot is requesting to not do their missions, they are sane and ineligible to be removed from duty, whereas those who continue to fly into danger willingly are deemed insane.

The cast includes Abbott (Yossarian), Kyle Chandler (Colonel Cathcart), George Clooney (Scheisskopf), Hugh Laurie (Major de Coverley), Giancarlo Giannini (Marcello), Daniel David Stewart (Milo), Rafi Gavron (Aarfy), Austin Stowell (Nately), Graham Patrick Martin (Orr), Gerran Howell (Kid Sampson), Jon Rudnitsky (McWatt), Kevin J.

Catch-22 was previously adapted into a 1970 feature film starring Alan Arkin, Bob Balaban, Jack Gilford, Bob Newhart, Anthony Perkins, and Orson Welles. When asked about the relevance of Catch-22 and specifically war in 2019 during the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, Clooney said, "All of us spend our days and nights thinking and worrying about those situations".
