George starred in the win, scoring 45 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, as the Thunder came from as many as 26 points down in the second quarter.

He drained both from the line to put OKC up three, with Houston turning the ball over on their final posession, leaving George to ice the game at the free throw line.

Russell Westbrook made history on Saturday, too, notching his ninth consecutive triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, tying a record Wilt Chamberlain set in 1967-68.

After dropping 45 points in his team's thrilling 117-112 victory over the Houston Rockets, on his way back to the locker room the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar gave his game-worn shoes to a lucky fan at Toyota Center.

And it was all over when Westbrook weaved through the Rockets' defence to convert a layup in the fourth, giving the Thunder the lead for good at 113 to 112 with 26.9 seconds left on the clock. The Thunder posted a 53-39 edge on the glass.

Chris Paul almost posted a triple-double (18 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists) in his strongest performance since his return from a hamstring injury.

While his offensive woes were front and center after the game, Westbrook tied Wilt Chamberlain for the most consecutive triple-doubles in National Basketball Association history and can set the record Monday night at home. As a team, the Thunder shot 47 percent from the field and 17 of 44 from the 3-point line as they trailed the Grizzlies in the early going before blowing them out in the second half by 66-42. After committing just two turnovers in the first half, the Rockets had six in the third quarter and collapsed with 1-for-9 shooting from behind the arc.

In the din of a prime-time rally against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night, the Thunder point guard was having what passes for a quiet moment. Less than three minutes into the final frame, the Thunder led 98-92, and the Rockets were left scrambling.

The Thunder are 101-24 all-time when Westbrook has a triple-double.

It was his 21st 40-point game of the season.
