The letter shows how Meghan, 37, begged him to stop his "painful" attacks on her "kind and patient" husband.

Meghan Markle's father has now felt compelled to make his daughter's letter, written to him shortly after her wedding to Prince Harry, known to the public.

It's claimed by the Daily Mail that the Duchess burst into tears when she heard of Samantha's plans to put pen to paper, as she thought she was being "taken advantage of".

Mr Markle was referring to the fact that information about the letter was revealed to the world because of an anonymous interview that five of Meghan's friends gave to People last week.

The former Hollywood lighting director, who now lives in Mexico, said that he never meant to make the handwritten letter public "out of respect for Meghan" - but says he has been forced to do so now because its contents have been falsely portrayed.

Meghan continued: "If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop. Instead, it was a dagger to the heart", he said.

The week before Meghan's May 19 nuptials Thomas chose to stay away after it emerged he'd staged paparazzi photoshoots ahead of the big day.

Over the past couple of months, Meghan Markle's father Thomas Markle has been in the news with several claims that he was not invited to the royal wedding between his daughter and Prince Harry.

Since then Thomas and Meghan's half-sister Samantha have continued to speak critically of her to United Kingdom tabloids.

We all rallied around to support and protect you from day 1, and this you know.

Mr Markle was countering media reports that he has not reached out to her after an unnamed friend of the duchess told USA magazine People: 'He's never called; he's never texted.

The duchess further went on to say that he didn't even tell her he wouldn't be attending the wedding, despite telling the press he had, that she had "only ever loved, protected, and defended" him and that she was distraught to hear of his heart attack the week before her wedding from the tabloids, not from him directly.

"You watched me silently suffer at the hand of her vicious lies, I crumbled inside".

Kensington Palace declined to comment on the letter.
