A Missouri woman used antifreeze to fatally poison her husband and then set their home on fire with his body still inside so she could marry a convicted murderer serving life in prison, according to reports.

She was allegedly having an affair with Eugene Claypool, an inmate at Jefferson City Correctional Center, where she worked as a nurse, at the time of the blaze. "The sheriff's office detectives came in with the fire marshal's office department and started investigating it and continued from there".

After the fire began, Amy Murray took her 11-year-old son and the family dogs to a McDonald's, according to a probable cause statement obtained by KQFX.

Emergency responders answering a 911 call of a house fire found Joshua's body inside the master bedroom on December 11, 2018.

According to a probably cause state cited by Fox 8, Murray said the home was on fire when she returned home and the smoke was too heavy for her to go inside.

But investigators said they found a McDonald's sandwich on the kitchen counter at the house in Iberia, which is about 140 miles (about 225 kilometers) southeast of Kansas City.

Police discovered evidence that Murray had allegedly become romantically involved with an inmate: In phone conversations recorded by the prison, Murray allegedly said she wanted to marry the inmate, according to the statement.

Amy Murray was booked into the Miller County Adult Detention Center on $750,000 bond.

Clayton has been locked up for more than 18 years in the deadly stabbing of a 72-year-old Missouri man who won $1.7 million in a lottery game. She and Claypool also discussed getting an attorney so Claypool could be released from prison early.

Investigators said Claypool repeatedly stabbed Hardwick, whose wife later found him dead with a Bible on his chest.

Police said the pair talked of being married and in one conversation, Amy said they could be Wednesday because her husband was dead and "out of the picture", KMIZ-TV reported.

Murray was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with her husband's death, authorities said. She's scheduled to appear in court on February 13.
