Crowds mass in Tehran to mark 40 years since Iran revolution

Imam Khomeini had lived many years in exile, in Iraq and France, before returning home and leading a historical revolution that overthrew Pahlavi regime.

Prices of food, especially meat, have risen a lot since U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran.

Ballistic missile capabilities were on display during the main march, including the Qadr F, a ground-to-ground missile with a 1,950-km (1,220-mile) range, Tasnim news agency said.

The state has played up this year's anniversary as 40 is symbolic of maturity in the Islamic tradition and the age at which Prophet Mohammed received revelations from God. The regime in Iran has produced only #40YearsofFailure.

Washington alleges Iran's launches defy a U.N. Security Council resolution calling on Iran to undertake no activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.


"The presence of people in this celebration means that plots by the enemies ... have been defused", Rouhani said.

On Monday, Iranian state television broadcast images of people carrying Iranian flags and standing out in cold, rainy weather.

Yadollah Javani, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' deputy head for political affairs, said Iran would demolish cities in Israel if the United States attacked.

The Shah was the United States' closest ally in the Middle East.

He said, "We will not let America become victorious.Iranian people have and will have some economic difficulties but we will overcome the problems by helping each other". "But if they attack us, we will raze Tel Aviv and Haifa to the ground", Brig.

"They should take that into account", he said.

Despite Iran's efforts to hide the facility, Israel has nevertheless discovered, tracked and uncovered it, the network said, as part of its effort to thwart Iran's military entrenchment in Syria.
