"I truly mean that!"

The Toronto Raptors shored up their roster ahead of a playoff run by acquiring three-time All-Star center Marc Gasol earlier in the week, but they're not done improving yet.

Lin was effective as a backup and mentor to Hawks' first-round pick Trae Young.

The Hawks tried to deal Lin ahead of the February 3 trade deadline but could not find a match in part due to the 30-year-old's $12.5 million salary. The Raptors would be the eighth National Basketball Association team Lin has played for in his career, which includes stops with the Warriors, Knicks, Rockets, Lakers, Hornets, Nets, and Hawks.

With Kyle Lowry dealing with a lingering back issue, and Fred VanVleet (left thumb soreness) now a little banged up himself, Lin may find a solid immediate role off the bench for the Raptors. The Raptors host the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. Much better defender than people think. He's an elite competitor.

"Very smart. And versatile". On the season, he is averaging 10.5 points, 4.6 assists and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The plan to enter into an agreement with Lin comes one day after the Raptors finalized the conversion of two-way player Chris Boucher's contract to an National Basketball Association standard contract.

Toronto is now well positioned to win the Eastern Conference - one game behind Milwaukee.
