The original Toys R Us stores were roughly about 40,000 square feet.

Months after the toy chain's demise, Tru Kids Inc. - also known as Tru Kids BrandsTM - has gobbled up brands like Toys R Us, Babies R Us, and company mascot Geoffrey.

Tru Kids Brands took ownership of Toys "R" Us and other properties on January 20. The management team includes Matthew Finigan, who previously served as VP and treasurer of Toys "R" Us as CFO; James Young, former executive VP and general counsel of Toys "R" Us, as executive VP of global license management & general counsel: and Jean-Daniel Gatignol, former senior VP of Toys "R" Us, as senior VP of global sourcing and brands.

During this past holiday season, Tru Kids sold private-label brands such as Journey Girls at US grocery-store chain Kroger Co., and the company is now in talks to continue the partnership this year, Barry said.

Barry, in a statement, said he is confident there still is room for Toys "R" Us in retail landscape.

"We have an incredible team focused on bringing Toys R Us and Babies R Us back in a completely new and reimagined way, so the USA doesn't have to go through another holiday without these beloved brands", Barry said.

In 2018, Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores across the nation closed down after 70 years in business.

It's been nearly a year since Toys" R " Us filed for bankruptcy and liquidated its business.

"These brands are beloved by customers", said Barry.

Tru Kids, based in Parsippany, New Jersey, about a 20 minute drive from Wayne, New Jersey, where Toys R Us was based, will work with licensing partners to open 70 stores this year in Asia, India and Europe.
