Medvedev is higher ranked and in better form. It was a dominant display by Monfils as he won all of his service games while breaking his opponents serve on 2 occasions to ensure a comfortable win.

"I was very aggressive today", Monfils said.

French tennis player, Gael Monfils, is set to face Russian tennis player, Daniil Medvedev, in the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Sofia Open in Bulgaria. Saturday's other semifinal sees Matteo Berrettini - a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victor over Fernando Verdasco - take on Marton Fucsovics, who benefitted from 2016 champion Roberto Bautista Agut's withdrawal due to illness.

Frenchman Gael Monfils registered a huge shock at the Sofia Open when he usurped the second seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas to book his place in the semi-finals.

"Like in the match against Karen, I was a set down and I tried to stay focused", said the 1.96m Italian, who turns 23 in April.

Saturday's other semi-final sees Italy's Matteo Berrettini facing Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.

However, Katerina Siniakova's straight-sets success over Mihaela Buzarnescu forced a doubles decider to keep the Czechs' hopes of reaching the semi-finals for an 11th straight year alive.

However, Krajinovic - a Paris Masters finalist in 2017 following a surprising run from the qualifying rounds - broke back, took the tiebreaker and then led 5-4 and 40-15 in the third.

At the Open Sud de France in Montpellier, 2012 victor Tomas Berdych fought off two match points to secure a 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 win over Filip Krajinovic.

Injury-plagued Jo-Wilfried Tsonga claimed the 17th title of his career on Sunday when he defeated French compatriot Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-4, 6-2 to claim the Montpellier title.

However, the 20-year-old came unstuck on Friday against the world number 33.

Tsonga next plays Radu Albot of Macedonia, who won 6-2, 7-6 (7/2) against qualifier Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.
