Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) "Rolling the Dice" on New Products

While asserting that Apple is on course to stun the market with fantastic new products, CEO Tim Cook on Friday said that he wants employees with all political viewpoints to feel welcome at the company, the media reported.

Finally, Cook touched briefly on the company's political ideology during the meeting.

Cook also said that there is a "long great roadmap" ahead for other products, including the Apple Watch and AirPods.

During the meeting Cook took the odd step of confirming that Apple intends to eventually reduce the price of its 2018 MacBook Air refresh, an update that finally brought Retina to the notebook.

Apple shares rose more than 1 percent in afternoon trading in NY on Friday.

Investors are waiting for Apple to come up with a next big thing as demand for its best-selling product, the iPhone, slows, leading to the company's 1st holiday-Quarter sales decline since Y 2001.


Cook confirmed that Apple is working on a pair of AR glasses, as augmented reality is the future, according to the CEO.

On the topic of regulation against tech companies, Apple said that companies like Facebook and Google build data profiles for their users, and thus tech companies should be regulated.

Apple was also criticized for donating $1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center in the wake of the violent Charlottesville, Virginia, attack in 2017 by a shareholder, who indicated that if the company's board was more diverse politically, it might not have made the donation.

Shareholders rejected a proposal to give wider access to nominate board members.

One shareholder criticized Apple for donating US$1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a United States legal advocacy organization specializing in civil rights and public interest litigation.
