Worst of flu season may be over in Mississippi

"With the traditional flu season running from October through May, it is not too late for Kentuckians to protect themselves and their families from the flu by getting a flu shot", said Dr. Jeff Howard, DPH Commissioner.

For adults, flu deaths are estimated based on pneumonia and other illnesses related to flu.

Overall, severity markers such as hospitalizations and deaths continue increase, as they typically do later in the flu season, but the levels are substantially lower than last season, which was severe.

About 60 percent of the flu virus samples tested last week were of the troublesome strain.

Still Lancaster County Communicable Diseases Coordinator Tim Timmons, says the trend for flu incidences in going down, and he is not expecting a second wave of flu outbreaks, like we had in December. OR is among the 32 states reporting they're being hit hard. Out of those deaths, 64 were children.

Today, the Center for Disease Control issued a national warning about the spread of H3N2 throughout the country.

In all, 58 Nebraskans have died from the flu this season - eight in Lancaster County. He also advises his patients to "remember to get it this fall in preparation for the next flu season".
