The platform also calls for requiring education on climate change for students in kindergarten through grade eight.

It all started with a 15 year old girl with autism, Greta Thunberg, protesting alone outside the Swedish parliament last August and has avalanched into a worldwide movement that has already staged several protests. "It makes the adults face the issue and hopefully prompt them to do something about it", said Kate, whose parents are supportive of her plans to strike.

Australia's school students are once again set to strike against inaction on climate change. Students will walk from East High School to the Capitol.

"We are going to talk with them, listen to them, hear them, we have to, climate change is the challenge they are telling us it is". "This is a celebration of what we love most!" "If our leaders on a global and a national level were doing their jobs properly then we wouldn't have to strike".

Local groups including Byron Shire Climate Emergency Guidance Group, Zero Emissions Byron, COREM, Creative Mullumbimy, The Brunswick Valley Historical Society and Mullum SEED issued a statement of support for the students. Despite there being more than enough evidence to prove the existence of anthropogenic climate change, we feel that the government is often more concerned with pocketing the political donations of fossil fuel companies than ensuring that our generation will have a future with a safe and stable climate.

A small number of parents had contacted Yeatman, but they were not in support of students missing class for the strike.

"I am very conflicted about [the strike] because any time you're missing school you are missing important content", she said.

Since Greta began her solo protest, it's estimated that more than 70,000 students around Europe and the world have joined her protest each week, in over 270 towns and cities.

More than 40,000 people braved miserable conditions in Amsterdam on Sunday to protest against the Dutch government's action over climate change, organisers said.

"While failing to take the necessary actions to protect health, we are also missing out on the potential to improve our quality of life now and for our children's future".

"I think there can be more awareness about it", she said. The aim of Climate Leaders is to recruit even more of these kind of candidates - people who can represent young voices and deliver visionary climate policy.

We are too young to be able to do that. "The youth of this world has started to move and we will not rest again".
