Boeing stock dropped more than 2% in trading Wednesday afternoon after President Trump ordered the grounding of the 737 Max aircraft.

Passengers landing at Hobby Airport on Wednesday turned on their phones and learned about the grounding of all 737 Max 8 and 9 planes.

"And when I fly, if I'm on a 737 Max 8, I think I'd be perfectly okay and it wouldn't bother me".

About two-thirds of the Boeing 737-Max 8, the company's newest plane, were pulled from service within two days of Sunday's crash.

"Similar causes may have contributed to both events", European regulators said, referring to the Lion Air crash in Indonesia that killed 189 people in October.

Canada's action followed confirmation that the pilot of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 reported internal control problems, while pilots in the USA filed at least five complaints in recent months about the aircraft model.

The plane that crashed in Indonesia was also a 737 MAX.

A handful of lawmakers of both parties have called for the aircraft to be banned from USA airspace.

Will Sunday's crash affect confidence in modern air travel?

Other countries - including New Zealand - have also suspended flights of the 737 MAX 8, so people no doubt want to know if it's safe to fly on the aircraft.

More countries took action Wednesday.

Only charred fragments of victims remain, meaning it will take weeks to identify all of them using dental or DNA testing. In the 737 Max, MCAS does this automatically, moving the aircraft back to a "normal" flight position.

Southwest Airlines issued a statement saying the company will comply, but it remains confident in the safety airworthiness of its entire fleet. was the first big site to say it would modify filters to allow customers to exclude particular types of planes from queries.

In the wake of Sunday's crash in Ethiopia, aviation authorities and carriers around the world, including in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, France, Germany, South Africa, the European Union, China and Russian Federation, have either grounded all 737 Max 8 series aircraft or closed their airspace to them. Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal called for flights to be stopped, as have Republican Senators Mitt Romney and Ted Cruz.

"You can't remove 5 percent of your fleet and not have something go wrong, but Southwest has dealt with plenty of cancellations because of mechanical problems and bad weather without too much of an overall impact", Kaplan said.

The new variant of the world's most-sold modern passenger aircraft was viewed as the likely workhorse for airlines for decades. Dawit Gebremichael sat with a photograph of his only sister, Sara, a flight attendant on the plane.

The United Arab Emirates' aviation regulator said on Tuesday there were "marked similarities" between the crashes, and China's regulator noted both occurred shortly after take-off.

The Federal Aviation Administration said a review had showed "no systemic performance issues" and that there was no basis for grounding the aircraft. They are voluntary safety reports and do not publicly reveal the names of pilots, the airlines or the location of the incidents.
