Climate strike poll: Do parents support the kids skipping school today?

However, when the Listener asked if parents and grandparents should march over climate change inaction, respondents were less enthusiastic, with 28% and 37% respectively saying no, and 32% and 27% saying they were not sure.

Hirsi, who lists on Twitter page that she is the head of the Minnesota High School Democrats and several other left-wing youth-based organizations, said in a recent interview with Grist that she is looking to "change the conversation" on issues such as the Green New Deal by organizing the strike.

Elsewhere in New Zealand, Wellington students showed up in force, and of course, they wielded many excellent signs.

According to organizers, each of the New Jersey events is expected to draw between 50 and 100 participants.

The young protesters are calling for greater regulation of the agriculture industry, which they say accounts for nearly half of New Zealand's emissions.

"My message to you is that here in New Zealand we hear you, we know we need to act and we are".


Young Derry students at a number of Derry schools will tomorrow leave their classrooms in a staged "strike" to attend a protest on climate change.

"We are not doing this just because we want to but because we have to in order to protect our right to a future on this planet".

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern struck a different tone.

All the students, as well as anyone else who cares about the future of our environment, is welcome to join in both the march to Valletta, as well as the actual environmental demonstration happening outside Parliament in Valletta.

"Students around the world are calling politicians to action - we have a responsibility to listen to them and respond", Ardern said.
