Former New York Jets defensive lineman Mike Pennel and former Denver Broncos tight end Matt LaCosse are signing with the New England Patriots, per Field Yates of ESPN. In five seasons, three with the Packers and the last two years in New York, Pennel has totaled 69 games played with 15 starts. The terms of his deal were not disclosed.

After being quiet the first few days of the legal tampering period and free agency, the Patriots have picked up the pace. He had 24 catches for 250 yards with a touchdown last season with the Denver Broncos.

The New England Patriots need depth at tight end, and they reportedly will be hosting one for a free agent visit Thursday.

The 27-year-old Pennel was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2014. In 2017, Pennel recorded 35 tackles, while in 2018 he had 27 tackles and a pass defense.

Elsewhere, NFL Network reports that the Patriots added another wide receiver to the undermanned mix in former Redskin Maurice Harris.
