Ten dead in Brazil school shooting, including two shooters

The attack occurred at a school that has more than 1,000 students in Suzano city in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo on Wednesday morning when two teenagers entered the school and carried out a massive shooting.

Doria said the school had been evacuated and police were inspecting what appeared to be possible explosives left by the gunmen.

Police of that area is on high alert and two helicopters were dispatched to assist the cops. Some of them were said to be in critical condition.

"Eight people died at the scene, including the two assailants who committed suicide", said a state military police spokesman.

Only secondary students were reportedly at the school at the time of the shooting.

At least five students have been killed in a shooting at a school in São Paulo state in Brazil, police say.

The mother of the 17-year-old shooter said her son was bullied at the school.

"I heard a lot of screaming", she said.

Police arrived eight minutes after the shooting started, and the attackers were already dead, Salles said.

School shootings are rare in Brazil, although the country is one of the world's most violent, with more annual homicides than any other.

Brazil's new President Jair Bolsonaro recently announced that gun ownership controls would be relaxed. Soon after being inaugurated January 1, Bolsonaro issued a decree making it easier for people wanting a gun to buy and possess one.

"We can't let those who take advantage of this tragedy speak about how disarmament is the solution", he tweeted, adding: "Weak and shameful 'disarmament farce, ' which gave guns to criminals and prevented self-defense".
