The final season of Game of Thrones might be the shortest one to date with only 6 episodes, but don't let that get you down.

We knew from a previous leak that the last few episodes would be way longer than usual, but to see HBO go all-out for the finale is heartening - after all, Game of Thrones season 8 needs to give us an enormous amount of closure after all these years. But despite fewer episodes, Season 8 will be nearly as long as Season 7 in total runtime: 432 minutes to Season 7's 440 minutes. Well, it turns out that isn't quite the case - but there will be a fair few longer episodes in Game Of Thrones' final run.

"How are they possibly going to tie up all the loose ends in only 6 slightly longer than average episodes?" another Game of Thrones fan asked.

As we reported earlier, rumors that the entire eighth and final season will be comprised of movie-length episodes aren't true. HBO officially revealed there are just 455 minutes-or 7 and a half hours-left of Game of Thrones.

Episode 4 on May 5 will be 1 hour and 18 minutes, and the final two episodes of the entire series will each be 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The final season only has six episodes, but four of them will be longer than usual. The shortest episode of the season will be the premiere at 54 minutes, with the second episode following close behind at just two minutes under an hour at 58 minutes. HBO has been pretty upfront with its plans to create a Game of Thrones prequel series, which is set thousands of years before the events of the current show and stars Naomi Watts in the leading role.
