Jaguar Land Rover recalls 44,000 cars

Tata Motors shares fell 2 percent in morning on Thursday after subsidiary JLR recalled some cars due to excessive Carbon dioxide emissions.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has become the latest automaker to be called out over excessive emissions, with the British firm under fire from authorities for select models built between 2014 and 2018. Petrol and some diesel models will be part of the recall.

There's several model lines potentially affected by the impending recall, including the Jaguar E-Pace, F-Pace, XE, XF, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Velar, and Sport.

Regulators discovered that 10 models were emitting more Carbon dioxide than they were certified to.

Some cars will need new tyres fitted, including the Range Rover Evoque and the fix could result in minor changes to the "overall vehicle experience", reports Which? Some Range Rover Evoque models will reportedly need new tyres.

Vehicle emissions have come under increased scrutiny in recent years following Volkswagen's diesel scandal, in which it was found to have installed software to trick emissions tests.

If you own an affected vehicle, Jaguar Land Rover should soon be contacting you to arrange a free of charge fix (if you're anxious you could cal Jaguar Customer Services on 0345 303 2303 or Land Rover on 0370 500 0500), which seems to mean a software update.

"The DVSA's priority is to protect everyone from unsafe drivers and vehicles".

The recall comes at a challenging time for the company. The company will contact the owners of the affected vehicles to arrange for free-of-charge repairs. JLR posted a record quarterly loss in February and announced about 4,500 job cuts the previous month.
