Thibaut Courtois Dropped By Zinedine Zidane On His Return To Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane restored old favourites for his first game since being re-appointed coach of Real Madrid as Thibaut Courtois was dropped for Keylor Navas while Isco and Marcelo both returned.

The Spanish giants face Celta Vigo on Saturday and the Real Madrid boss has sparked a discussion over his starting XI.

Madrid lie 12 points adrift of leaders Barcelona, who play away at Real Betis on Sunday.

The Frenchman led Madrid to three consecutive Champions League titles before surprising the football world by handing in his resignation.

But Zidane is using the end of the season to rebuild for the future as he signed Porto defender Militao for £42million this week.

Zidane left the Spanish club previous year after winning the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League title beating Liverpool in the final in Kiev.

Zidane's favoured formation was 4-3-3 with Cristiano Ronaldo spearheading the attack, but will have to make alterations without the Portuguese forward, who left for Juventus last summer.

Courtois was the biggest surprise, given he was bought by Madrid for around 40 million euros ($45 million) last summer and had established himself ahead of Navas under Santiago Solari.

"We are here to play, there is no punishment or anything like that".

Real Madrid matchday squad vs Celta Vigo: Navas, Courtois, Luca, Ramos, Varane, Nacho, Marcelo, Odriozola, Reguilon, Kroos, Modric, Valverde, Asensio, Brahim, Isco, Ceballos, Mariano, Benzema, Bale.
