A suspected rhino poacher got a fatal dose of karma after he was trampled by an elephant and then devoured by a pride of lions in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

A search party was instructed to find the poacher's body, but only a skull and a pair of pants were found by Thursday.

The man and his accomplices entered South Africa's Kruger National Park in order to poach rhinos on April 2, according to South African National Parks.

Kruger Park Rangers began searching for the man's body on Tuesday evening, sending a helicopter to scan the area known as Crocodile Bridge, but had no luck finding him.

A human skull and a pair of trousers were recovered Thursday, and a pride of lions is believed to have eaten the man after he was crushed.

"During this search ... the remains of a body were discovered", South African National Parks said in a statement. "Skukuza police were notified immediately and are now busy with further investigations into the incident", the park said in a statement.

"Entering the Kruger illegally and on foot is not wise as it holds very many dangers and this incident is clear evidence of that", Kruger National Park managing executive Glenn Phillips warned.

"Police launched a joint intelligence driven operation in search of the dead poacher's accomplices, resulting in the arrest of three men aged between 26 and 35, within KaMhlushwa and Komatipoort precincts".

They're set to appear in court soon.

'Upon their appearance, the court remanded them in custody and will reappear at the same court on April 12, 2019, pending a formal bail application.

Mr Phillips commended the search party for finding what was left of the poacher to give the family "some closure" and extended the parks' condolences to his relatives.
