Gender Pay Gap Report reveals Cardiff Airport is ahead of the curve

The median gap is the difference in hourly pay between the employee in the middle of the range of male wages, and the middle employee in the range of female wages.

Energy chiefs have insisted a shortage of women looking to join the sector is partly to blame for the gender pay gap in the north-east.

Young's Brewery reported the same gap as a year ago, of 10.6%.

"As a technology-led business, our Gender Pay Gap reflects the broader societal challenges of getting more women into the technology sector", said Ticketmaster president Mark Yovich.

Conversely, those whose pay gap veers in favour of men are: Grant & Stone 12.8%, Travis Perkins plc EH Smith 10.7%, JT Atkinson 9%, Nicholls & Clarke 5.4%, Ridgeons 4.6%, Bradford Building Supplies 3%, Wolseley UK 1.8%, RGB 1.3% and Crossling 0.3%.

It said that differences in the pay gap were due to there being disproportionately more men in certain divisions of the workforce. The 2016 Census data shows that Indigenous women in Ontario face a 43% gender pay gap; racialized women: 38%; immigrant women: 34%. "This is a genuine commitment to lasting change and we must welcome these efforts even if it does mean the numbers do initially go up instead of down". "Our independent adviser noted that we have much to be proud of as an inclusive employer, but we want to do more to address the gender pay gap issue".

The regulations may also require the publication of information on employees on temporary contracts, the percentage of employees in each of the four pay quartiles who are men and who are women and the publication of information by reference to job classifications. On average Ontario women face a 29.3% pay gap. As such, with 2018 being the first year Cardiff Airport has exceeded 250 directly employed members of staff, this was the first report published.

It is the second year businesses have been required to publish this data.

The median gender pay gap remains the same as previous year, with the median pay rate for female staff being 5.5 per cent higher than the median pay rate for male staff. It is illegal to pay men and women different salaries for the same job. Today, those factors have faded away; women obtain more graduate degrees than men and women's participation in the workforce has skyrocketed in recent decades.

Last week, the Charity Commission admitted it published incorrect gender pay gap figures in its report past year.
