Cyrus also posted words of encouragement for the budding artist following the removal of the song from the charts.

Personally, I'm not buying this. "The horse would be like, not having much, and Old Town Road would be that path to success".

Billy Ray Cyrus hopped on the remix and delivered what can only be described as the "sauciest" country feature ever. And while I think Cyrus added a lot to the track - his gravelly vocals on both the intro chorus and his verse just sound so good - I truly think this was a country song before Cyrus touched it. But I think that's where the hip-hop influences ultimately end. Speaking to Billboard, acclaimed country stars Brothers Osborne spoke about Lil Nas X, giving a distinct perspective on the subject.

"I don't know what country is".

Who needs the country charts when you can top the Billboard 100?

"Old Town Road" dethrones Ariana Grande's "7 rings", which falls to #3 this week. All of the lyrics feel fairly earnest.

"Old Town Road", which has been dubbed "cowboy trap", is now the in the states. Lil Nas X left a cryptic message on Instagram where he wrote, "Ready to tell them @beyonce".

I hope it's not the latter, and I'm willing to give Billboard the benefit of the doubt on it. Billboard doesn't seem to want to allow music that blends genres to succeed. We'll just have to follow Lil Nas X on his meteoric rise to find out. Now it appears that the viral sensation is ready to capitalize on the moment even further, as he's recruited Young Thug to be on the official remix of what currently sits atop the Billboard 100. Here's a look at highlights of the list's new leader by Atlanta native Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill; he was born April 9, 1999, and, thus, celebrates his 20th birthday tomorrow with a host of chart honors to unwrap.
