It's been a tough Game 1 for the Philadelphia 76ers in their first-round matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. Johnson showed Embiid something on the phone and then slid it into the pocket of his warm-ups.

After the Sixers' Game 1 loss to Brooklyn, two major storylines lingered that didn't have all that much to do with the uninspired basketball we had just watched. "I also apologize to my teammates, the 76ers organization and the fans for the distraction this has caused".

After the game, Embiid told reporters that Johnson had a valid reason as he was checking on the status of his daughter who was "extremely sick".

The NBA Operations Manual bans the use of cellular phones on the bench during games. Johnson was inactive for the game, but obviously, Embiid was not.

"I have addressed the matter with Amir directly, and he understands why his actions were unacceptable", Brand said.

The Sixers said Johnson would be dealt with quickly, and shortly after the game, the team released a statement saying that Johnson had been fined.

Sixers superstar Joel Embiid, who was questionable with a troubling knee injury, was able to play in Game 1 and scored 24 points in 22 minutes, but aside from Jimmy Butler, almost every Sixers player struggled in Game 1.
